For its 12th running the American Queen of the Classics will move from its traditional April date to the weekend of May 21 and 22, 2016.

Organizer Anthem Sports tweeted news of the the change when it sent out a link late on Sunday evening to the results of the Sunday races and gran fondo at 2015's events.

The Tour's tweet drew a number of comments expressing surprise at the move, including some disappointed that the new date would create a clash for them.

The Tour of Battenkill bills itself as America's largest and  "toughest" one-day Pro/Am cycling race and draws participants in their thousands from across the US and Canada and further afield.

Riders compete over a 65+ mile loop in the beautiful Battenkill Valley. The course, which starts and finished at the Washington County Fairgrounds, includes infamous gravel sections and has controlled intersections for its entire length.
