VERMONT'S TOUGHEST GRAVEL ROAD RACE

The Dirty 40 Race is a 70 mile unsanctioned gravel road race covers 5600 feet of elevation gain on the gravel back roads through some of the most scenic pristine landscapes of Vermont. Based in Derby, Vermont, there is a field limit of 500 riders.

80% Gravel Roads

The Dirty 40 Race travels through Derby, Holland, Morgan, Charleston, Westmore, and Brownington, Vermont.  80% of the course is on some of the most rural scenic backroads you will find in the State of Vermont.

The course is tough, real tough.  In fact, we've been told it is harder than an Ironman.  Climbs as steep as 13% grades and 5600 feet of elevation gain.

We have neutral support on course as well as multiple feedzones and a broomwagon if you are unable to finish.

Unsanctioned

No license is needed to race.  No points assigned.  All you need is a bicycle, a helmet, and the will.  We have multiple  categories including age groups, singlespeed, and tandem. Our winners do receive bragging rights, a trophy, and a winner's jersey.  And we know how tough this race is, so we even have the Lanterne Rouge award for the last place finisher.

Race or Ride

We are by all means a race.  We are timed and have victors.  But some race against the clock and others race against their own personal best. We love that our race attracts all different speeds and riders.  We love that bicycles unite.
So even if you aren't the racing type or even if you are,  challenge yourself to race the Dirty 40.
