With a motto of "Fortitudine Vincimus - By Endurance We Conquer" it seems only natural that Planet Ultra is expanding into gravel.

An, as-yet-nameless, 75-miler In Veyo, Utah, and the Cedar City Fire Road 100K Gravel Grinder are planned for 2017.

"Both of these rides showcase fabulous dirt roads, rideable on a gravel bike, cyclocross bike or hard-tail mountain bike," promises Planet Ultra.

These are the first off-pavement events for the group, which runs a slate of bike events in California, Utah and Neveda with double centuries a speciality. On Utah's paved roads, Planet Ultra runs the Zion Gran Fondo, the Hoodoo 500 and the Tour of Southern Utah.

The Veyo event, 20 miles north of St. George, will be on June 10.

For the time being it is being referred to as the "Shut Your Pie-Hole and Ride Gravel Grinder" due to the start's proximity to the team's favorite Veyo Pies.

It covers 75 miles with 6200′ of climbing and a bit more dirt than paved.

The Cedar City Fire Road 100K Gravel Grinder will be on August 19 in Cedar City, UT, and resurrects a similar ride put on by Fire Road Cycling for four years from 2012. The 2016 iteration was cancelled at the last minute.

"A small group of us rode it as a 'show and go,' and we were blown away by the awesomeness of the route! So incredibly challenging - but so much fun! Then and there we decided to keep the event alive and rebrand it as a Planet Ultra Gravel Grinder."

The 100K course has 7,200 feet of climbing and fully 80%+ is dirt. There will also be a 60K route.

Established Planet Ultra events include the Death Valley Century, the Mulholland Challenge, the Heartbreak Hundred, Granfondo Las Vegas and the Solvang Double Century. A full list can be found here.
