The Motherlode Century in Northern California is moving to the Fall this year.

The event, which takes its name from its location in El Dorado County in the foothills of the Gold Country, will take place on September 10, 2017 in a change from its previous April timing.

The organizers said that the move is to give participants a better opportunity to train for the climbs of the longer routes.

The route of the headline Motherlode Century serves up over 9,000 feet of climbing in its 95 miles with more vertical for those who tack on any of the optional sections to reach the full 100. The Motherlode includes a stream crossing across Weber Creek where you can ride across or have "friendly valets" carry your bike.

The new date will also tie in with autumnal color changes in the vineyards in and around the Coloma Valley between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. The area is a center of fine food, wine and beer production.

All routes start and finish at the host camp, American River Resort located in Coloma, CA on the South Fork of the American River, just downstream of the gold discovery site that brought the 49'ers west.

The riverside camp serves up massages, showers, dinner, live music and drinks after the riding is over.

The Motherlode is partners with the Friends of El Dorado Trails, building a trail from South Lake Tahoe to Folsom.
