The 2018 "Beast of the East" will be on Monday May 14. Registration opened Monday, October 16.

The 43rd running of the event will, as always, take riders from downtown Spartanburg to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi.

For those who do not fancy the 102.7 miles and over 10,000 feet of climbing to the top of Mt. Mitchell the still not insubstantial Assault on Marion finishes at Tom Johnson Campground in Marion, North Carolina, 74 miles from Spartanburg.
