The organizers of the RBC GranFondo Whistler are bringing their brand to Northern California with the RBC GranFondo Silicon Valley based in East Palo Alto on June 23, 2018.

The route for the first edition will take riders west to the Pacific in a loop through the Santa Cruz Mountains before returning to a finish-line festival "at the foot of" the Four Seasons in East Palo Alto.

"Inaugural riders will experience a challenging 75 mile course that goes through the center of Silicon Valley, climbing up into the majestic redwoods, descending to the rugged coast-line before heading back. This ride will challenge even the most hardy cyclist," declares the ride's website.

Tunitas Creek Road and Kings Mountain Road are the two significant climbs. Tunitas Creek makes lists of the best climbs in the area and is 8.5 miles with 1,800 feet of height gain at an average (but definitely not constant) 4.1%.

King's Mountain Road is just over four miles with 1,570 feet of climbing out of a total of 7,000 feet for the day.

Pricing for the 75-mile ride, which is the only option as there are no medio or piccolo routes, runs from $225 to $280.

The event also offers an Alta Classe package for between $650 and $750.

There is no mention of closed roads, which RBC Gran Fondo Whistler enjoys.

In 2018, the field is limited to 1,000 riders with registration open.

The first RBC GranFondo Silicon Valley is on June 23 2018.
Gran Fondo Silicon Valley offers the expected suite of features for a premium gran fondo including chip timing, full support, a swag bag, online results and finish line festivities.

Alta Classe gets you to the front for the start as well as providing an exclusive lounge, free post-ride massage, gifts and offers from sponsors, and more (though given the price it would be an advantage for your start-up to have secured VC funding from Sand Hill Road, which is on the route).
