The BSG is a challenging to strenuous 100 mile loop ride starting and ending at the Valle Crucis Elementary School, approximately 5 miles south of Boone, North Carolina. The cumulative climbing elevation is 8188 feet with the climb up to the gap at Snake Mountain, milepoint 59, reaching an 18-20% grade near the top.

BSG showcases the mountain communities of Watauga and Ashe counties, North Carolina; highlights of the route is the signature climb over the 4,500 foot gap at Snake Mountain, and a 8 mile "flat" on old US 421.

A 50 mile, 4,200 feet elevation, "Half Century" is available for those who prefer the sanity of a challenging but shorter route. Both rides are fully supported with aid stations and SAG support.

The 100 mile route is limited to 750 riders and the 50 mile route is limited to 500 riders.

SAG Support: The SAG volunteers’ goal during the Blood Sweat and Gears event is to provide assistance for riders. Not all SAG volunteers have experience with bike repair. SAG vehicles will carry a cell phone, tubes, air and minor first aid kits. Boone Bike and Touring and Magic Cycles provide bike techs along the route, but they may not be stationed where you break down. If you need special chains, tubes etc. be sure to carry them with you. Cell phone service may be sporadic in areas. Please come prepared.

Blood Sweat and Gears is planned and executed by BSG Events, Inc.   BSG Events is fund raising non-profit.   Net proceeds from the ride are donated to local charities in the High Country.
