Join us for the Icon TOUR of the MOON, Grand Cycling Classic, in Grand Junction / Colorado National Monument (a unit of the National Park System).

The Tour of the Moon was made famous in the 1980’s Coors Classic and later in the cycling movie American Flyers. Today, it continues to be considered one of the premier recreational rides in the western United States. The breathtaking, high desert scenery and beautiful roads make this an epic day of cycling.

The ride will be limited to the first 2,000 registered participants. The Icon Tour of the Moon will work in partnership to raise funds for the Colorado Riverfront Commission and Bicycle Colorado.

The Icon TOUR of the MOON is a 62-mile (metric century) and 41 mile "classic ride" ride through the unique landscape of the American West. All cyclists will start and finish at Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction.

The ride will begin with a spectacular trek through the Colorado National Monument. After exiting the Monument, riders may elect to tackle a metric century through the beautiful farm country and surrounding areas of Fruita or opt for the classic 41-mile classic loop back to GJ.

Colorado National Monument
The Colorado National Monument, (a unit of the National Park System) requires all cyclists (regardless of whether they are in a cycling event or on their own) to have a white light that is visible from a distance of at least 500 feet to the front and a red light that is visible from at least 200 feet to the rear.

The Monument has 3 tunnels, bored through solid rock, that does not have lights, thus the reason for the safety requirement. Also, all cyclists and support vehicles are required to use the lights in the three tunnels (you may turn them off once you’ve exited, but for your safety we would advised to leave them on during your ride). If you do not have lights, you can purchase a light set (front and Rear Lights) for $20 when you register. Also, Federal policy requires cyclist to ride single file in the Monument as is the stare law. We encourage all participants to ride in a safe manner while enjoying the beauty that the Monument offers.
