The Lighthouse Century offers three routes traveling along the coast past San Simeon with two longer routes climbing into the coastal hills. Scenic vistas of the central coast and cool ocean breezes make this a beautiful classic ride, so register early.
Registration Opens: Sunday, June 3rd at 12:00 noon
The Lighthouse Century starts and ends on the campus of Morro Bay High School and travels North along the ocean past San Simeon with an option to climb coastal hills with senic views. Enjoy staying in the quaint coastal community of Morro Bay.
Scenic vistas of the central coast and cool ocean breezes make this beautiful ride a classic that sells out every year, so reserve your place early.
All three routes leave Morro Bay on scenic Highway 1, with vistas of Morro Rock and the Estero Bay shoreline. Those taking the Old Creek 85 Route travel up the winding, oak-tree-shaded and challenging Old Creek Road while those choosing the Century Route make the long climb up Highway 46. Both of these routes turn around at the Donati Famil Vineyard rest stop and enjoy the long Highway 46 downhill with its breathtaking views of the coast. Those choosing the Coastal 65 Route remain on Highway 1 throughout.
All riders enjoy a rest stop at Cambria's Shamel Park and then continue north along the San Simeon coast to the turnaround rest stop at the Cypress Tree Vista just below the Elephant Seal Observation area. Be sure to look for zebras on the Hearst Ranch property. The Shamel Park rest stop again serves all riders as they return to the start.
Hopefully the return ride from Cypress Tree will be aided by a tailwind all the way to Morro Bay High School and a well-earned post-ride BBQ.
The food and drinks at each rest stop are selected to both nourish the body and taste great as you ride the course. This means that there is no "Lunch" stop. Instead, every stop has an appropriate selection of carbs and protein from which you can choose what you need.
Drinks will include Fluid sports drink, fresh lemonade and water with coffee at the first stop. Standard rest stop food will include such things as locally made cookies, bagels, bananas, oranges, nuts, PP&J sandwiches and hard boiled eggs. This will be expanded with unique additions at each rest stop to support rider needs and provide variety.
