Acting on tips from the public, California Highway Patrol arrested a 21-year-old driver for hitting four cyclists and driving off. The riders were taking part in The Jensie Gran Fondo of Marin in Marin County, California, this weekend.

One rider was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with head injuries. The other three received treatment at Marin County General in Greenbrae and were discharged later on Saturday.

The driver, Aaron Paff of Novato, CA, was charged with felony hit-and-run and held on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Marin County Superior Court Oct. 19 and more charges may be forthcoming.

Video of the incident shot by the helmet camera of a motorcyclist coming in the other direction allegedly shows Paff deliberately swerving into the line of cyclists before driving off without stopping.

"The last thing I said was, 'Car back,'" Oliver Colvin told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. "Then I woke up and I was on the ground."

Spencer Fast, 48, who was airlifted was reported in stable condition.

Colvin, 55, Robert Grier, 53, and Joseph Olla, 49, were less bady hurt.

The four had been close to completing the 70-mile "Presidential" route when they were hit on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road near Hicks Valley Road.

In all, 1,300 riders took part in what was the third running of the Jensie, named after and fronted by ex-pro Jens "Shut Up Legs" Voigt. The gran fondo, which also has 40- and 100-mile courses, is in part a fundraiser for the Marin County Bicycle Coalition.

The California Highway Patrol posted pictures of the dark blue Dodge Ram pickup taken from the video of the attack and received at least two calls giving Paff's name and address. He was arrested at his home in Novato around 11pm the same day.

"Thank you everyone for all of the tips and information regarding the bicycle collision on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road on Saturday morning," the CHP said on Facebook. "Your help has proven invaluable yet again. "

"We are grateful to serve a community that looks out for one another. Often times in situations like this people think they see something but often dismiss it as an unlikely coincidence. When we ask for help we are asking you to disregard that feeling and let us know. Sometimes it's the smallest detail that leads us to a suspect. Again, we sincerely thank everyone who liked, shared, and commented on our posts."
