Join us for the Icon TOUR of the MOON, Grand Cycling Classic, in Grand Junction / Colorado National Monument (a unit of the National Park System).

The Tour of the Moon was made famous in the 1980’s Coors Classic and later in the cycling movie American Flyers. Today, it continues to be considered one of the premier recreational rides in the western United States. The breathtaking, high desert scenery and beautiful roads make this an epic day of cycling.

The ride will be limited to the first 2,000 registered participants. The Icon Tour of the Moon will work in partnership to raise funds for the Colorado Riverfront Commission and Bicycle Colorado.

The Icon TOUR of the MOON is a 62-mile (metric century) ride through the unique landscape of the American West. Cyclists will start and finish at Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction, Colorado. Participants will depart the Convention Center in the same manner as 2014 and will ride toward Fruita.  Riders may choose to ride the metric century through the beautiful farm country surrounding areas of Fruita and finishing with the spectacular ride through the Colorado National Monument, a unit of the National Park System (entering the west entrance) to the Convention Center.

Or choose the classic 41 mile ride entering the Colorado National Monument at the west entrance and continue over the Monument on your way to your return at the Convention Center.

In addition to the great experience cycling this incredible red rock course, each participant will receive:

  • A specially designed commemorative event jersey
  • Entrance fees into Colorado National Monument
  • A ticket to the Harvest Moon Celebration post-ride lunch and party
  • Energy replacing refreshments at the amply stocked aid stations
  • Road support throughout the course

The Colorado National Monument, (a unit of the National Park System) requires all cyclists (regardless of whether they are in a cycling event or on their own) to have a white light that is visible from a distance of at least 500 feet to the front and a red light that is visible from at least 200 feet to the rear. The Monument has 3 tunnels, bored through solid rock, that does not have lights, thus the reason for the safety requirement.
