The Glassner Autumn Challenge

The Glassner Autumn Challenge is presented by Max Credit Union. The annual century ride is held in memory of Dr. Jim Glassner, a longtime friend and supporter of cycling in central Alabama.

A member of the Montgomery Bicycle Club, Jim was killed in a cycling accident on December 16, 2001. We renamed our century event (which we have been running since the 80's) in his honor. He was an avid cyclist and the Autumn Challenge is dedicated to his love of cycling. The ride supports Montgomery Bike Club Cycling Safety Classes, Cycling Awareness Activities, and Bike Month.

Pick from your choice of five routes: Nutty Nifty Nines (18 miles), Smell the Roses (30 miles), the Fabulous Fives (55.5 miles), the Mad Metric Century (64 miles), or the Courageous Century (103 miles).

We have updated the routes again for 2017 taking out the 3 miles of chipseal that was so disliked and rerouting the 55, 64, and 103 mile routes onto regular pavement.

The club members of the Montgomery Bicycle Club understand that no one understands the need of a cyclist better than your fellow cyclists. Club members proudly serve as your volunteers for the day to ensure your needs are met! 

No matter what distance you choose, you will be biking the beautiful, tree-lined, low-traffic rural roads of central Alabama with mechanical support, sag wagons, and themed rest stops supplied with plenty of fruit, light snacks, water, and sports drinks. The short routes offer gently rolling hills, while the longer routes offer moderately rolling hills. The routes will be clearly marked and will keep you on beautiful rural roads.

The ride will begin and end at Pintlala Baptist Church where a delicious all-you-can-eat pancake (and much more!) breakfast will be served by the Pintlala Baptist Church in the fellowship hall from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Cost of the breakfast is included in your registration. When you return be ready for some old fashioned southern hospitality - tomato sandwiches, ice cream, and more!
