Rapha will open a new cycle club in Chicago on October 8, GranFondo.com has learned. The move is part of Rapha's rapid expansion in the United States market.

The Chicago club will be at 1514 N Milwaukee Ave in Wicker Park. It becomes the third Rapha cycle club in the US, after New York and San Francisco. It was previously a bar called Nick's Beer Garden, which had a reputation as being a cheap dive bar; it's reincarnation is likely to be anything but cheap and divey!

A Rapha spokesperson told us: "Rapha Chicago is the meeting place for the city's cyclists, no matter the weather, playing host to rides, race screenings, and events throughout the year. The full range of Rapha products is available in the Clubhouse, and the café is stocked with the finest coffee and food.

"Chicago's cycling history is long and storied. It was once the bicycle-building capital of the USA, has been home to ten velodromes over the years, and still produces weather-hardened riders who play a part in a strong cycling culture. In keeping with the city's cycling tradition, Rapha Chicago is well-placed for access to the city's riding, whether that be early morning intervals near Lake Shore or longer excursions past the northern suburbs."

Rapha now has 12 cycle clubs worldwide and the Rapha Cycling Club has more than 5,000 members, making it one of the biggest cycling clubs in the world.
